Inclusion and diversity in the workplace isn’t just about race or ethnicity, it’s also about disabilities or neurodivergence.
Members of the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce attended a presentation by the Autism Action Partnership and the Kids and Dreams Foundation. The workshop was held at Cunningham’s on the Lake and was intended to assist employers in recognizing the talents and differences of individuals with autism.
Marcia Prideaux, Program Manager at Prosper Workforce Services, said people with autism tend to be very tuned in with patterns and repetition. Therefore, people with autism can very much excel in positions with routine tasks involved.
“Errors or data that is not consistent with what they’re looking for tends to jump out at them,” Prideaux said. “A lot of companies in technology, global companies like Microsoft Autocon, SAP and others are looking for.. actively recruiting talent with individuals with autism.”
