The Omaha Housing Report is now available!

Thank you for your interest in the 2023 Omaha Neuro-Inclusive Housing Market Analysis!

In 2023, Autism Action Partnership (AAP) commissioned a Housing Market Analysis to be completed specifically focused on the needs of those with Autism, Intellectual and/or Development Disabilities (A/I/DD). AAP partnered with a targeted national effort and made Omaha only the fifth region in the country to have such an Analysis. We are excited to share a summary of this project.

Since 2008, AAP has been committed to serving the Nebraska autism community, through direct services as well as community education. While we are not a housing provider, we are acutely aware of the growing need for housing and services to foster independent living among those we serve. AAP invested in this project to create a comprehensive report that summarizes the housing needs and opportunities for the Omaha A/I/DD community.

We are grateful to our partners First Place AZ and First Place Global Leadership Institute, Madison House Autism Foundation, Make Waves Foundation, and Front Porch Investments for making this project possible. We offer a sincere “Thank You” to our stakeholders, including parents, caregivers, self-advocates, and sector representatives, for sharing their expertise… and ensuring this report accurately represents the unique voice of the Omaha A/I/DD community.

Please contact us directly if you would like to learn more about this project or would like to discuss potential neuro-inclusive housing opportunities.

  • The Need

Adults with autism and/or other intellectual/developmental disabilities (A/I/DD) face a critical shortage of housing options and access to supports they need to thrive.

To drive future planning, funding and advancements in public policy, the First Place Global Leadership Institute’s Make Waves Center for Community Development is, in collaboration with Autism Action Partnership, completing a comprehensive housing market analysis of needs and preferences in Omaha.

  • The Process

In collaboration with the First Place Global Institute’s Make Waves Center for Community Development, Autism Action Partnership will provide the opportunity for individuals and families in the autism and I/DD communities to engage in a survey for housing needs and preferences.

FirstPlace will then analyze the data and produce a final report. The report will be released at the Local Leaders Workshop to connect changemakers in the Omaha area. The document will then be a public document for use by any entity in the Omaha community.

  • The Purpose

Raising the voices of self advocates, family members and local leaders by:

Collecting data: determining what individuals in the autism and I/DD communities need and want.

Identifying barriers: Identifying barriers to meeting demand.

Working together: Demonstrating how the public, private, nonprofit and philanthropic sectors can work together to mitigate displacement or homelessness and encourage independence.
