CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Work 1: Why We Work is designed to help neurodivergent adults build the confidence, tools, and understanding needed to begin their employment journey. This course introduces the “why” behind work and explores how individual strengths, interests, and goals can shape a fulfilling career path.
Participants will:
Learn the foundational expectations of the first day on the job, including how to navigate working on a team
Reflect on their personal strengths and interests to explore possible career pathways
Explore effective communication strategies with peers at work and understand the nuances between friends, coworkers, and supervisors
Develop the skills needed to navigate the employee handbook and job site expectations, while also learning what YOU can expect from a job
By the end of the course, participants will feel more confident and prepared to apply for jobs or volunteer roles that align with who they are. The class is taught in a supportive and inclusive environment that aims to reduce anxiety around the “unknowns” of transitioning to a new (or first) job, making space for learning, growth, and self-discovery.
